Abdul Majeed Shoman International Award For Jerusalem
Background and Objectives
The Abdul Majeed Shoman International Award for Jerusalem was established in Amman in 1999 by a generous grant from Mr. Abdel Majid Shoman, whose death was a great loss to the homeland and nation. Mr. Shoman was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Bank and of the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation.
The Award will be granted to honour individuals for their life-long intellectual, academic, literary or artistic contributions that exhibit originality and excellence, and that genuinely enhance and further knowledge of Jerusalem, in terms of its history, geography, demography and culture. However, the Award may also be granted to honour individuals for an outstanding single work that meets the Award's criteria.
All nominated works for the Award should be submitted in Arabic, English, French or German, or translated into one of these languages.
The Award will be granted every two years in one of the following fields on Jerusalem:
Historical research.
Research in modern life of the city.
Creative Literary Works.
Creative Artistic Works.
Nomination for the Award is open to researchers, intellectuals, men and women of letters, and artists throughout the world. However, in some years, the Board of Trustees may have the privilege of limiting nominations to applicants from a designated region.
The Award may also be granted to honour institutions whose performance and achievements reflect the objectives of the Award.
