Automation of Library Operations

The Library started the automation process of its operation and services since it started in 1986, when it first made use of personal computers and Dbase III. The Library then began to use the MINISIS system, which is known for such characteristics that enable it to meet the basic needs of Arab public libraries. The Library has automated all its operations and its technical and public services, starting with acquisition, indexing, cataloguing, and control of periodicals, to circulation services, filing reports, collecting statistics, and search and retrieval operations. The system has been used in building a set of bibliographical data bases and others, such as: data bases of Library collections, articles that have been cataloged from periodicals that the Library receives, periodicals, children’s library, youth library, two data bases of unified lists of foreign and Arab periodicals in Jordan, and data base of supported branch libraries in the Kingdom’s governorates.
