Instructions for the data entry of the field of available issues for periodicals Union Lists.
In addition to checking out bibliographical information related to the title of the journal, publication data and the publication date , as well as frequency of issues of available issues shall be verified as received from the relevant library, while taking into consideration the following remarks:
1- The abbreviation (مج) will be used for the following words: Volume, year, part even if the words ‘year’ or ‘part’ are mentioned- and in English, Vol. is an abbreviation of ‘Volume’.
2- The letter (ع) is an abbreviation for ‘Issue’ and No. is an abbreviation for the word issue or ‘Number’.
3- In case the number occurs along with the year it shall be bracketed.
Example : No. 1 , (1967).
4- In case only the time is indicated then the year shall be mentioned without a numerical reference.
5- In case the Issue covers more than one year then a slash shall be used without it being preceded or followed by a space:
Example : 1970/71
Example : 1972/73
6- In case the numbers are serialized and specified by a number or a date they shall be cited as follows:
No.1
Vol.1
No.1-6
1925-
1936-1937
7- When Volumes are specified with a number and a date then both elements should be cited, and the number shall precede the date:
Example : Vol. 4 , No. 5-6 (1977)- Vol. 1, No. 1 (1964)
Example :Vol. 1 (1960)
8- Sequential phrases are to be separated by a semicolon.
Example : Vol. 1, No. 2 (1963); Vol. 3, No. 4 (1965)
9- Concerning frequency of issuance the suitable code shall be used in accordance with what was stated in page (b) of this list.
