Electronic Databases

The Abdul Hameed Shoman Public Library is subscribed to many databases, including thousands of periodicals on various subjects and topics, most of which are provided in full texts. Among the most important databases are the following:

1. EBSCO Information Services

EBSCO is one of the largest and broadest databases of electronic periodicals, existing in worldwide academic libraries and research centers and published since 1975 to date in PDF formats. This Database was designed to serve academic institutions, and provides scientific research information, unavailable in other similar databases, given its distinguished mechanism adopted to ensure the compilation and collection of research from various publications and periodicals issued by several institutions.

In this respect, EBSCO offers a variety of search types, including advanced research, provided by means of Boolean research techniques, or through language, topics and names of magazines and journals. This is, therefore, intended to help users and researchers access required topics directly and effortlessly, as well as specific subject, or journal or author’s issue-related full texts.  

  • Communication & Mass Media Complete

    Communication & Mass Media Complete provides the most robust, quality research solution in areas related to communication and mass media. CMMC offers cover-to-cover (“core”) indexing and abstracts for more than 770 titles. Furthermore, this database includes full text for over 450 journals.

  • Legal Collection

     This database contains full text for more than 250 of the world's most respected, scholarly law journals. Legal Collection is an authoritative source for information on current issues, studies, thoughts and trends of the legal world.

  • Regional Business News

     This database provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of more than 80 regional business publications covering all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States.

  • Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection

     It is a comprehensive database covering information concerning topics in emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry & psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational & experimental methods. This is the world's largest full text psychology database offering full text coverage for nearly 400 journals.

  • Professional Development Collection

     Designed for professional educators, this database provides a highly specialized collection of nearly 520 high quality education journals, including more than 350 peer-reviewed titles. This database also contains more than 200 educational reports.

  • Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts

     Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LISTA) indexes more than 560 core journals; plus books, research reports and proceedings. Subject coverage includes librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, information management and more. Coverage in the database extends back as far as the mid-1960s.

  • Academic Search Complete

     This database contain more than 8,500 full-text periodicals, including more than 7,300 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 12,500 journals and a total of more than 13,200 publications.

  • Business Source Complete

     This Database providing the leading collection of bibliographic and full text content. As part of the comprehensive coverage offered by this database, indexing and abstracts for the most important scholarly business journals back as far as 1886 are included. In addition, searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,300 journals.

  • Computers & Applied Sciences Complete

    This Database covers the research and development spectrum of the computing and applied sciences disciplines. CASC provides indexing and abstracts for nearly 2,200 academic journals, professional publications, and other reference sources from a diverse collection. Full text is also available for more than 1,000 periodicals.

  • MEDLINE with Full Text

    MEDLINE with Full Text provides the authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and pre-clinical sciences found on MEDLINE, plus the database provides full text for more than 1,470 journals indexed in MEDLINE. Of those, nearly 1,450 have cover-to-cover indexing in MEDLINE. And of those, 558 are not found with full text in any version of Academic Search, Health Source or Biomedical Reference Collection.

  • Vocational and Career Collection

    This Database is designed for vocational and technical libraries servicing high schools, community colleges, trade institutions and the general public. This collection provides full text coverage for nearly 340 trade and industry-related periodicals.

  • Environment Complete

    This Database contains more than 2.4 million records from more than 2,200 domestic and international titles going back to 1888 (including over 1,350 active core titles) as well as more than 190 monographs. The database also contains full text for more than 920 journals.

  • Education Research Complete

    Education Research Complete is the definitive online resource for education research. Topics covered include all levels of education from early childhood to higher education, and all educational specialties, such as multilingual education, health education, and testing. Education Research Complete provides indexing and abstracts for more than 2,100 journals, as well as full text for more than 1,200 journals, and includes full text for nearly 500 books and monographs.

  • Literary Reference Center

    Literary Reference Center™ (LRC) contains full text for more than 35,000 plot summaries, synopses and work overviews, nearly 100,000 articles/essays of literary criticisms, more than 460 literary journals, more than 693,000 book reviews, nearly 78,000 classic and contemporary poems, more than 19,600 classic and contemporary short stories, more than 6,500 author interviews, more than 8,200 classic texts and much more.

  • SocINDEX with Full Text

    This Database contains full text for more than 860 journals dating back to 1908. This database also includes full text for more than 830 books and monographs, and full text for over 16,800 conference papers.

  • ERIC

    The Education Resource Information Center provides access to educational science resources, containing more than 1.3 million records, as well as to various data of journals listed in the Education Index.

  • CINAHL Plus with Full Text

    CINAHL Plus® with Full Text is a robust collection of full text for nursing & allied health journals, providing full text for more than 770 journals indexed in CINAHL.

    CINAHL Plus with Full Text is the core research tool for all areas of nursing and allied health literature. Full text coverage dates back to 1937.

  • eBook Collection (EBSCOhost)

     Search and view the full text of eBooks.

  • eBook Academic Collection (EBSCOhost)

     This growing subscription package contains a large selection of multidisciplinary eBook titles representing a broad range of academic subject matter, and is a strong complement for any academic collection.

  • Arab World Research Source 

    Arab World Research Source is a dedicated resource of scholarly journals, quality magazines, trade publications, industry profiles, country reports, market research reports and conference papers related to the Arab World. The database contains more than 140 scholarly full text titles, with the majority of the journals featuring Arabic full text.

  • eBook Arabic Collection (EBSCOhost)

    Search and view the full text of eBooks.

  • Consumer Health Information - Arabic

    This Database provides articles on common medical conditions and procedures in a way that is easy to understand.

  • English Language Learner

    It is an electronic English language learning center, serving as a source of multi-purpose information, especially designed for young English learners, secondary school students and public libraries.

  • Points of View Reference Center

     The Points of View Reference Center constitutes a dedicated interface, serving public, academic and secondary schools’ libraries. It was designed to help researchers understand the full range of controversial topics.

  • DynaMed
     
    DynaMed Plus constitutes a medical reference tool, created by specialized doctors to serve physicians and other health care professionals, so as to be used and utilized in the health care provision site. It includes summaries arranged according to medical information and cases of more than 3,200 topics and subjects.

    2. Arab E-Marefa Database
     
    The Scientific and Statistical Periodicals Service: It includes the provision of full-text services, with respect to scientific and statistical journals published in the Arab world in Arabic, English and French, as well as offers around 270,000 full-text, scientific and statistical articles, in addition to 1,800 scientific and statistical journals from 19 Arab countries.

    3. Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
     
     This free-of-charge service provides full texts of quality scientific and academic journals, aiming at covering all subjects and languages. The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) currently encompasses 8,960 journals, of which 6,249 are searchable at article level. At the moment, DOAJ also contains 2,037,216 articles.

    4. Arabic Collections Online (ACO)
     
    The Arabic Collections Online (ACO) is a public, digital library of Arabic-language books, available to the public, and funded by the New York University in Abu Dhabi. It aims at showcasing about 15,000 books, published by the New York University and other participating universities during a five-year period of time.
